About our Support Groups

Our support groups, for those with a lived experience of with anxiety and/or depression, are a twelve-week journey (90 min. sessions) guided by trained facilitators. Participants will learn about the causes of anxiety and depression, and how to apply solutions to real-life scenarios.

Education

There are many factors that impact our mental health, from biology to past experiences and more. Because these issues are so complex, education is a key component at each of our group meetings. We will cover basics such as what anxiety and depression are and how they impact our feelings, thoughts, and reactions. We will learn various strategies for coping with these impacts by using real-life scenarios and brainstorming as a group. In the group setting, each participant is also an educational resource! Each of us brings with us a wealth of life experience that we can all learn from together.

Application

Each week, we will not only learn together, but will talk about how to take our learning home and apply it immediately to our life circumstances. We will discover how to slow down and take control of our thoughts and actions; minimizing their ability to control us and how we feel. Our time together in our sessions is important, but the weekly take-home tasks are a key to getting the most out of this experience. Together, we will learn, and put into practice, strategies for approaching and working through the things that trigger our anxiety and/or depression.

Who are We?

You in Mind is a project of New Life Collingwood. Each of our facilitators has their own story of learning to live with anxiety and/or depression and has been trained by a psychotherapist registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. We are not mental health professionals, but we are a group of people passionate about helping others learn about mental health and how to live their best lives!

Our Raison D’etre

New Life Collingwood is a community church who simply wants to offer this support in an area of need in our community. We believe that the example of Jesus encourages us to love people where they’re at and to extend compassion – without any strings attached. In our support groups, we’ll only discuss matters of faith if you wish to. We’re very happy to have that dialogue, but only at your initiative. We really just want to be a part of your healing journey!
